FAQ

Are you a Vanity Publisher?

A resounding NO!

First, you always retain the copyright.

Second, we won’t publish just anything. We have to believe it has some merit. The difference is we will work with an author to create a work worthy of the Be Published name and therefore something we can both be proud of.

We want to see you published not just printed.

So why do you charge?

Be Published is not one of your large international publishing houses, therefore there are only 2 ways for us to stay in business.

One is to only sell best sellers. The other is to share the cost of publishing with the author. We keep our fees affordable and we don’t ask you to buy huge quantities of books: you can buy just 1 if that’s all you want.

Do I get Royalties?

A resounding YES! (Provided your book sells, of course)

Royalties are paid monthly by cheque in Australian Dollars and are based on:

You are given the opportunity to purchase copies at wholesale prices and any profits from the sales you make are yours to keep. We encourage authors to keep a supply of books on hand; don’t be shy about charging your friends and family for your books. Sell them a signed copy to make it special.

Royalty calculations exclude any distribution, postage and/or handling costs which are charged to the purchaser by the publisher or seller.

Can I purchase copies to distribute myself?

Absolutely! In fact, authors are the basis of our distribution network. We encourage authors to keep a supply of their own books on hand to sell to their friends, family and acquaintances.

Don’t be shy about charging your friends and family for your books. Sell them a signed copy to make it special.

We also encourage you to sell books by other Be Published authors. Take orders and buy through us. You could make a second income from this and at the same time promote the Be Published community.

We offer the books at competitive, wholesale prices and any profits made from the sale of these books are yours to keep.

What is your Return Policy?

Our books are produced and distributed by professional printers. Whilst every effort is made to provide books undamaged, to a high standard of quality and in good condition, occasionally things go wrong.

If a customer receives a book they feel is below this standard they are free to return it for replacement (we don’t offer refunds).

The same applies to authors who buy books for either their own use or for sale. If the books are damaged return them for replacement.

Can I distribute the books through other channels or publishers?

You own the copyright to your book however Be Published Pty Ltd becomes the official publisher of your book. We are happy for you to distribute your book through local bookshops markets, book shows, to friends and family, etc.

Please contact us should you wish to distribute through another publisher.

Obviously there are complications selling other author’s books other than through your own efforts. This is not too complicated though; just contact us to ensure we have the author’s permission to distribute.

Do I need to obtain an ISBN?

No. As a publisher Be Published provides ISBN codes and Bar Codes that uniquely identify your book and Be Published as the publisher. We also look after Legal Deposit where required.

How many times can I revise my book once you have compiled it?

We both need to be happy with your book prior to printing. We provide for 2 major revisions and up to 4 minor revisions.

A major revision includes cover rework, a replacement cover image or a re-write of significance within the book.

Minor revisions include spelling or grammar corrections or corrections to dates where these changes do not affect the format of the book.

Beyond this, changes are charged at our standard rates.

How do I start?

If you’re ready to contribute and submit some title/s, then:

Then, we will send you an email confirming receipt of your work, detailing the fees required and provide a link for payment. Alternatively, if you’re sending your work by CD, you can pay by cheque (payable to Be Published Pty Ltd); just include it with the CD.

Once the fees are paid and cleared we launch into preparing your work for print.

How long does it take?

First, nothing happens until we received your work, Author’s Agreement and payment of our fees in full.

Once all the components are with us and we’re both happy with them, we will have your work available for review within 15 to 20 business days. From there it depends on the number and extent of corrections.

When we are both happy with the book it’s usually ready for sale within 3-4 weeks. These times are maximum and it will often be quicker.

Whilst the book’s in production we construct a webpage featuring your book.
